November 4, 2024 (CAIRO)—Sudan’s military leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan called on the international community to support Sudan’s rebuilding at the World Urban Forum in Cairo on Monday. Burhan, who also heads Sudan’s Sovereign Council, attended the forum at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the head of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad al-Alimi, were also present, along with UN officials and representatives from various countries. In his address, Burhan said the Sudanese people and army were “looking forward to an active role from various brotherly and friendly countries and specialists in the process of rehabilitating the urban sector, which has been affected by the systematic targeting by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) supported by regional and international powers.” He stressed that Sudan was preparing for the reconstruction phase in the post-war period, which he said would be soon.
