December 7, 2024 (AL-DAMAZIN) – The Sudanese army said on Saturday it had repelled an attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a town in Blue Nile state and recaptured a key town in Al Jazirah state. The army has retaken most towns in Sennar state, including its capital Sinjah, over the past month. However, the RSF still controls areas in the state and has made inroads into villages in Blue Nile. “After a five-hour battle, the forces of the 15th Infantry Brigade in Bout managed to repel an attack by the rebel RSF militia,” the army’s 4th Infantry Division in Ad-Damazin said in a statement seen by Sudan Tribune. The army destroyed eight RSF combat vehicles and killed a number of “mercenaries” from South Sudan, Ethiopia and Chad fighting alongside the RSF, it added. Separately, field commanders said the army had recaptured the town of Wad al-Haddad in southern Al Jazirah state after fierce battles with the RSF. Wad al-Haddad is located on the highway linking Sennar and Al Jazirah states and is about 70 km (43 miles) south of Al Jazirah’s state capital.
