December 9, 2024 (PORT SUDAN) – Sudanese military leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan met with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Monday, as Sudan urged the League to prevent member states from meddling in its internal affairs. The meeting follows Sudan’s formal complaint to the U.N. Security Council against the United Arab Emirates, which it accuses of providing financial and military support to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). “We have called on the Arab League to hold an emergency meeting to neutralize some member states that have interventions in Sudanese affairs,” said government spokesman and Culture and Information Minister Khalid Aleisir. Aleisir urged the League to take action to limit external interference in Sudan. Aboul Gheit arrived in Port Sudan for a two-day visit, where he is meeting with senior Sudanese officials. The Sovereign Council said in a statement that Burhan and Aboul Gheit discussed the conflict and the need for an immediate ceasefire. Acting Foreign Minister Ali Youssif and Sudan’s representative to the Arab League, Imad al-Din Adawi, also attended the meeting.
