December 9, 2024 (JUBA) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir has sacked the army chief of staff, Gen. Santino Deng Wol and appointed Gen. Paul Nang Majok as the new chief of the military. In several decrees read on the state-owned television (SSBC) on Monday evening, the president appointed Gen. Wok as the Undersecretary in the Defense and Veterans Affairs ministry, replacing Atak Santino Majak. In a separate decree, the South Sudanese leader removed the governor of the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS), James Alic Garang Alic and appointed Johnny Ohisa Damian as his replacement. Ohisa previously served in as the Central Bank governor before he was reappointed on Monday. Meanwhile Kiir appointed Gen. Abraham Peter Manyuat as the new Inspector General of South Sudan Police Service, replacing Gen. Atem Marol Biar while another decree saw Garang Majak sacked as the first undersecretary of the Finance ministry and replaced with Arop Nuoi Arop. The decrees did not give reasons why changes occurred in the security and banking sectors.
