January 2, 2024 (WAD MADANI) – The death toll from attacks by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the town of Wad Rawah in Al Jazirah state has risen to seven, with dozens injured and many fleeing their homes, local sources said on Tuesday. The attacks, which began on December 30, are reportedly in retaliation for the brief appearance of Abu Aqla Kikl, the leader of the Sudan Shield Forces, who claimed control of the area before quickly withdrawing. “The death toll from the attacks by RSF elements on Wad Rawah has risen to seven, including a woman killed today by direct fire,” local sources told Sudan Tribune. Sources also reported widespread looting of cars, money, gold, and jewellery and the abduction of numerous young men for ransom, including women and elderly residents. The Al Jazirah Conference, a local civil society group, issued a statement condemning the attacks and the burning of the market, medical clinic, and main mosque in Wad Rawah.
