January 7, 2025 (OMDURMAN) – Sudan’s army made further advances in Omdurman on Tuesday, seizing areas previously held by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and liberating three captured officers, the military said. The army said it had taken control of several positions in the west and south of Omdurman, the twin city of the capital Khartoum, which lies across the Nile. Last month, the army secured the headquarters of the Umbada locality in Omdurman’s 6th district. The Army Engineers Corps has also pushed south, capturing the Al-Shagla area and western parts of Al-Fitaihab after heavy fighting with the RSF, the military added. Military sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Sudan Tribune that special forces had advanced in Omdurman’s Al-Fitaihab area, capturing blocks 9, 10, and 17, as well as the entrance to the Al-Muraba’at neighbourhood and the Real Estate Bank. The army had also taken a key road leading to Umbada’s eastern districts, the sources added. The army’s media platforms released videos showing troops dismantling RSF outposts in Al-Muraba’at and southern Al-Fitaihab.
