January 15, 2025 (PORT SUDAN) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Cairo’s commitment to Sudan’s stability and its return to the African Union (AU) during talks with Sudanese officials in Khartoum on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Abdelatty met with the Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Youssif. Discussions focused on efforts to reinstate Sudan’s AU membership, the welfare of Sudanese citizens residing in Egypt, and the upcoming convening of a bilateral political consultation committee. This marks Abdelatty’s second official visit to Sudan in two months, underscoring Egypt’s active engagement in the region. Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khalaf said Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s unwavering solidarity with Sudan and its support for the country’s stability, security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Abdelatty detailed Egypt’s efforts to promote stability in Sudan and facilitate its return to the AU. He welcomed the Sovereign Council’s decisions to expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid within Sudan.
