Kuwaiti authorities have exposed a major forgery scandal involving a citizenship file linked to a man born in 1957, leading to the revocation of dozens of citizenships. The man, who was granted Kuwaiti nationality in 1993 at the age of 35, is accused of fraudulently obtaining his status years after the Gulf War, officials said on Friday. Investigations revealed that 74 individuals, falsely registered as his children and grandchildren, were added to his file. All those involved, including the forgers, are set to have their citizenship revoked, according to the Nationality Investigations Department. The case was exposed after the man’s supposed brothers admitted to authorities that they were not related to him, revealing he had been fraudulently added to their deceased father’s citizenship file. Further inquiries showed the father had used a fake identity to secure benefits and later included the man in his file to obtain citizenship post-invasion. “The man’s nationality was obtained based on fraudulent claims,” the department said, adding that legal procedures are underway to revoke all citizenships associated with the case.
