Five members of the Council of Representatives have put forth a draft law proposing the allocation of a portion of the Future Generations Reserve Fund (FGR) to support scholarships and grants for higher education. The proposed bill, submitted by MPs Jameel Mullah Hasan, Dr Ali Al Noaimi, Hesham Al Awadhi, Mohammed Moosa, and Mohammed Al Alaiwi, seeks to allocate 2% of the FGR annually for a duration of four consecutive years. This funding is designated for the Ministry of Education, specifically to be utilised for scholarships and grants in modern fields that align with the prevailing demands of the labor market. According to the accompanying memorandum of the proposed bill, the primary objective of the bill is to promote education and scientific research by providing exceptional opportunities for high-achieving students to pursue higher education across a diverse array of academic fields.
