Sharjah City Municipality has begun issuing permits for food preparation and sales during Ramadan’s daylight hours, as well as permits for displaying food outside shops before Iftar. Ramadan is expected to start on Saturday, March 1, based on astronomical calculations, though the exact date will depend on the moon sighting. The month is anticipated to last 30 days. In a social media post, the municipality announced that the permits, with a fee of Dh500, apply to restaurants, cafeterias, sweet shops, bakeries, and shopping malls. Conditions include serving food off-site (no in-house dining), food preparation limited to kitchens, and food displayed on the sidewalk in non-corrosive containers within a sealed glass box. Food must be covered with food-grade materials and stored at an appropriate temperature. Several service centers are available to assist with the permit issuance process.
