A premium number of a mobile phone has fetched a whopping 429,500 Omani riyals (Dh4.09 million) on Wednesday at an auction held by a telecommunications service provider, Vodafone. That makes it the most expensive number in the country. Vodafone has announced that the entire proceeds from the auction will be donated to charity. The auction, which included both ‘diamond’ and ‘gold’ numbers, saw a total of six distinctive numbers sold. The company congratulated the new owner of the exceptionally rare 77777777 number, noting its unique and unrepeatable nature. The sale has triggered an online controversy.
