Zionist aggression against Gaza, "disaster" for global conscience and international humanitarian law

ALGIERS- The Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Salah Goudjil, underlined that the Zionist aggression against Gaza, launched a year ago, is a "disaster" for global conscience and international humanitarian law as well as for international peace and security, emphasizing the fierce diplomatic battles conducted by Algeria and the freemen of this world to establish a ceasefire, and to condemn and sanction the Zionist occupation.

Goudjil said, in an interview granted to the daily "El-Chaab", on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Zionist aggression against Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, that "the world’ collective memory will retain the furious Zionist frenzy and its crimes against humanity, in October 2023 against the Palestinian people and in October 2024 against the Lebanese people"."

"It was a painful year where we experienced a human tragedy that deeply afflicts us, the year of the great 'Nakba' that struck this time not only the valiant Palestinian people, but also all components of the international community whose credibility has been shaken, values have been soiled and regional and international laws and institutions have been humiliated," deplored Goudjil.

The President of the Council of the Nation evoked the killings, acts of torture and mistreatment, forced displacement, famine, destruction of lands, persecution of human lives in every area of Palestine and other atrocities committed this year, in addition to the "shock of international indifference and disproportionate regional and international reactions to the horror of the criminal act, worse still its encouragement through a racist speech that justifies this barbarity".

Furthermore, Goudjil considered that this year has been "that of courage, resistance, defiance and fierce diplomatic battles of Algeria and free men of this world within the United Nations and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for an immediate ceasefire and to condemn and sanction the Zionist occupation,” highlighting "the bravery  of Palestinians in their resistance and resilience, as well as the courage of free men of the world who have dragged this occupation before international justice for the first time"."

He underscored the historical initiative of the Republic of South Africa, which filed a lawsuit against the Zionist entity before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Pointing out Algeria's official and popular positions in favor of unconditional support for the just Palestinian cause, Goudjil emphasized that this unified position between the people and their leadership, as well as the constant official and popular position that will not change under any circumstances "has been expressed by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in all diplomatic and media forums, declaring that the Palestinian cause is a national cause that we will not give up and that we will support Palestine, whether it is right or wrong".

The statements of the President of the Republic concerning the Palestinian cause, particularly since the beginning of the brutal Zionist aggression, were "strong, meaningful and clear, and deserve the international political and media echo they have aroused. This is not surprising, given the diplomatic momentum of the new Algeria which has revived our old glories in international and regional forums," he emphasized, considering that "the statements of the President of the Republic "summarize the positions of all freemen worldwide and call things by their name, being marked by an audacity that many leaders and presidents no longer have"."

Concerning the role of the Council of the Nation in defending the rights of Palestinians, Goudjil said that the Council had marked its presence during this crisis, declaring: "we have campaigned through all regional and local parliamentary platforms to make the voice of the Palestinian people heard, to provide them with help and assistance, and to impose an immediate ceasefire, and this thanks to our membership in international, African, Mediterranean and Arab organizations and parliaments".
