Algeria elected to vice-presidency of African Parliament Speakers Conference

ALGIERS- Algeria was elected to the vice-presidency of the Conference of African Parliament Speakers (COSPAL), following the participation of a joint delegation from both Houses of the Parliament in the 2nd Assembly of this Conference, which was held on October 26- 27 in Accra (Ghana), the Council of the Nation (Upper House of Parliament) said Sunday in a press release.

This Conference “marked the official establishment of the Conference of African Parliament Speakers and the adoption of its founding Charter, which defines the objectives of this new Parliamentary Organization, particularly the strengthening of consultation and coordination between speakers of African parliaments and legislative assemblies,” said the same source.

The Conference also highlighted “strengthening of cooperative relations with the African Union to address common challenges and promote development in Africa.”

The participants in this meeting also elected the Conference's bodies, namely the General Assembly, Executive and Advisory Committees, committing to “organize periodic meetings to monitor works, evaluate performance and formulate suggestions to achieve the Conference's goals,” added the press release.[/ecr]
