Prime Minister installs Mebrouk Zidelkhir as HCI president

ALGIERS- Tasked by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Prime Minister, Nadir Larbaoui, presided over the installation ceremony of Mebrouk Zidelkhir as president of the High Islamic Council (HCI), in implementation of the presidential decree of October 14, 2024, the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement.

During this ceremony, the Prime Minister began his speech by "extending his congratulations to the new president of the High Islamic Council for the trust placed in him by the President of the Republic,” highlighting "the major importance that the President of the Republic attaches to this reference constitutional institution, given the pivotal and important role incumbent upon it in the influence of Islam, with its intrinsic principles and authentic foundations, and in the proper understanding of our religion and its protection against any political or ideological instrumentalization, by working to correct misconceptions".

 

The Prime Minister also praised the rich career of Dr. Mebrouk Zidelkhir, considered as "a value and a scientific and religious authority who has devoted his life to science, knowledge, and Islamic sciences."

 

The installation ceremony took place at the HCI headquarters, in the presence of the rector of Djamaa El-Djazaïr, Sheikh Mohamed Maamoun Al Kacimi Al Hoceini, the Minister of Religious Affairs and Wakfs, Youcef Belmehdi, the Advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of religious affairs, zaouias and Quranic schools, Mohamed Hassouni, as well as HCI’s members, according to the source.
