“The second session of the parliamentary meeting, as part of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), included the participation of a joint delegation from both chambers of Parliament, comprising the President of the Parliamentary Network on Climate and Environment, Abdellah Chenini, and Mustapha Lounis, a member of the same network. During this session, they reaffirmed Algeria's commitment to addressing global environmental challenges,” added the same source.
In this respect, Chenini emphasized “Algeria’s commitment to adhering to all international conventions on environmental protection, notably the Paris Agreement on reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 7% by 2030,” adding that "”it has taken significant steps in this regard.”
He also mentioned “Algeria's implementation of the national energy transition plan aimed at reducing dependence on fossil fuels, as well as the national plan to combat climate change, which represents a comprehensive strategy to address climate change.”
Chenini also highlighted “the constitutionalization of the citizen's right to a healthy environment,” emphasizing “the legislation adopted by the Algerian Parliament, such as laws for the protection of forests, green spaces and recycling, in addition to the creation of the Parliamentary Network on Climate and Environment.”[/ecr]
