General Chanegriha chairs official installation ceremony of new Land Forces Commander

ALGIERS — General Saïd Chanegriha, Deputy Minister to the National Defense Minister, Chief of Staff of the People's National Army (PNA), chaired on Wednesday in the name of the President of the Republic, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, National Defense Minister, the installation ceremony of Major General Mostefa Smaili as the new Land Forces Commander, the National Defense Ministry said in a statement.

“In the name of the President of the Republic, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, National Defense Minister, General Saïd Chanegriha, Deputy Minister to the National Defense Minister, Chief of Staff of the People's National Army, chaired this Wednesday, 20 November 2024, the installation ceremony of Major General Mostefa Smaili as the new Land Forces Commander,” the same source said.

After the welcome ceremony, General Chanegriha paused at the entrance of the Land Forces Command headquarters to pay respects to the martyr Didouche Mourad, after whom the Command headquarters is named.

He then laid a wreath at the commemorative stele of the martyr and recited Al-Fatiha in his memory and that of the valiant martyrs.

Following the previous events, General Chanegriha conducted a formal inspection of the officers and personnel of the Land Forces Command, who were assembled in formation on the parade ground. He then officially announced the installation of Major General Mostefa Smaili as the new Land Forces Commander, succeeding Major General Amar Athmania.

“In the name of the President of the Republic, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense, and in line with the presidential decree of 12 November 2024, I officially install Major General Mostefa Smaili as Commander of Land Forces, succeeding Major General Amar Athmania,” General Chanegriha announced.

“Also, I order you to work under his authority, follow his orders and implement his instructions, in the interest of the service, in application of military regulations and the laws of the Republic, while honoring the sacrifices of our valiant Shuhada and upholding the values of our glorious Revolution,” he added.

General Chanegriha subsequently chaired the ceremony of the national flag handover.

Following the signing of the Minutes of Power Transfer, General Chanegriha held a meeting with the Command, General Staff and personnel of the Land Forces Command headquarters.

He then delivered an orientation speech via videoconference to all Land Forces units, in which he stressed that “he personally ensured that alternation in positions and functions would be a constant tradition and culture, which would drive a new dynamic within the ranks of the PNA.”
