Algeria elected Vice-President of 29th Conference of States Parties to Chemical Weapons Convention 

THE HAGUE-Algeria, representing the African region, was elected Monday vice-president of the 29th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention (25-28 November).

During the same session, Algeria was elected member of the “Confidentiality Commission” of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

It should be noted that Algeria is participating in this session with a high-level delegation, made up of the president of the National Authority responsible for implementing the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons at the national level, representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Energy, the National Institute of Criminalistics and Criminology of the National Gendarmerie (INCC), as well as Algeria’s permanent representation to the OPCW, led by Algeria’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Salima Abdelhak, who will deliver a speech on the main issues of interest to Algeria during the general debate of the session, which will discuss several points related to the implementation of the Convention, particularly the elimination of chemical weapons.

During an official ceremony, the “OPCW – City of The Hague” Prize for the year 2024 was awarded to the INCC of the National Gendarmerie in recognition of its remarkable contribution to achieving the organization’s goal for a world without chemical weapons. 

The Algerian institute was awarded the Prize jointly with the Indian Chemical Council (ICC).

The prize awarding ceremony took place in the presence of delegates and representatives of OPCW Member States, under the presidency of the session’s president, the organization’s Director General, Salima Abdelhak, the interim president of its Executive Council, and the Mayor of The Hague.[/ecr]
