During a plenary session of the People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) dedicated to oral questions, Rebiga underscored “the “special interest” that the State gives to the protection of the historical and cultural heritage of the popular resistance, national movement and the glorious liberation revolution, noting that “this is part of preserving and transmitting the historical legacy of the shouhada and Mujahedeen to future generations.”

In this regard, he mentioned “the inventory of 1,289 Shouhada cemeteries, 1,474 torture centres, 5,215 historical sites, and 3,244 commemorative monuments nationwide,” highlighting “the State’s commitment to preserving these historical sites so as to safeguard the national memory.”

Therefore, “the ministry is committed to the annual restoration of historical sites across the country, in coordination with various partners, including the revolutionary family, local communities and civil society actors,” said Rebiga.

Emphasizing “the major importance of commemorating all stages of Algeria’s history,” the minister noted that “more than 14,000 historical stages (battles and events) are linked to the glorious Liberation Revolution.” [/ecr]
