In an address at the 10th UN General Assembly (UNGA) emergency session, the Algeria's deputy UN permanent representative, Nassim Gaouaoui, said the meeting "comes as a result following the inability of the Security Council, once again, to adopt a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza."

"The draft resolution, backed by 14 Security Council members, shows that an immediate, unconditional and lasting ceasefire in Gaza was a demand of the entire international community," despite the few dissenting voices that continue to subscribe to the occupier's vision and narrative, Gaouaoui said.

Algeria has been contributing to this effort as it believes that it is necessary to take action to curb the Zionist occupier, and it is saddened by all the innocent blood shed in the occupied Palestinian territories, mainly in the Gaza Strip, the Algerian diplomat said.

As the brutal aggression against the defenceless Palestinian people has entered its second year," the international community is still, alas, unable to impose its will" on the Zionist occupier, through a "ceasefire and the dispatch of humanitarian aid while the Gaza Strip is living one of the worst humanitarian tragedies in the modern era," Gaouaoui deplored.

"A genocide and ethnic cleansing are taking place before our very eyes and it is unacceptable for us to stand idly by. It's a disgrace to humanity."
