"I would like to thank the President of the Republic of Burundi for honouring me by receiving me today (Thursday) while he is about to chair a significant event here, in Burundi, in relation to youth, peace and security," Attaf told reporters following the audience granted to him by President Evariste Ndayishimiye as part of his official visit as a special envoy to the president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

Attaf said he had delivered, to the president of Burundi, "a written letter from his brother the president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune."

The Foreign minister said that the letter stresses the common desire for Algeria, and Burundi to "develop bilateral relations and the best way to serve the African continent in the particularly troubled international situation."

"There is a shared determination and a shared political will to give a fresh impetus to bilateral relations and to expand them," Attaf stressed.

"We have agreed on some measures and bilateral meetings in this respect."

"President Evariste Ndayishimiye shares with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune the need of making our two countries emerging nations, and then developed countries," Attaf said.
