Cherfa, AOAD Director General discuss means of strengthening bilateral cooperation

ALGIERS - Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Youcef Cherfa received on Monday, in Algiers, Director-General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), Professor Ibrahim Adam Ahmed Al-Dakhiri, with whom he discussed means of strengthening cooperation between Algeria and AOAD, according to a statement from the ministry.

During this meeting, which took place in the presence of Director of the AOAD's Maghreb Regional Office, based in Algiers, Cherfa and Al-Dakhiri discussed means of strengthening cooperation in the various fields relating to sustainable agricultural development and food security, said the same source.

In this regard, the two parties discussed the challenges facing the agricultural sector in the region, in particular climate change, added the ministry.

The two officials further highlighted Algeria's crucial role, thanks to its potential, in boosting the joint Arab action in this field," according to the source.

On this occasion, cooperation programmes were proposed as part of the implementation of the National Plan for the Development of Strategic Crops, currently being developed by the Government, notably for cereals, pulses, oilseeds and sugar crops, the source concluded. [/ecr]
