Niger's Oil Minister on working visit to Algeria to bolster cooperation

ALGIERS — The Minister of Oil of the Republic of Niger, Sahabi Oumarou, begins on Saturday a working visit to Algeria, as part of bolstering cooperation relations between the two countries in the energy sector, particularly in hydrocarbons, the Ministry of Energy and Mines said in a statement.

Oumarou leads an important delegation including officials from the Prime Minister's office, Niger's hydrocarbon sector, and the national oil company. This visit mirrors “the mutual desire to explore new avenues for developing relations between the two countries,” the statement noted.

These relations “have been growing steadily, thanks to the visits exchanged by high-ranking officials of both countries, with a view to implementing existing cooperation programs and finalizing joint development projects, particularly Sonatrach's research and exploration project and the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project (TSGP),” the same source added.

This visit follows the one made by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, to the Republic of Niger on 6-7 August 2024.

The Nigerien Oil Minister's agenda in Algeria includes “several meetings, particularly with the Minister of Energy and Mines and other officials, as well as visits to certain energy facilities and training institutes so as to explore ways to diversify and expand cooperation between the two countries in areas such as refining and petrochemicals, and to benefit from Algeria's expertise in these fields.”
