Led by the Director for the Maghreb and Malta region within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, Ahmadou Moustapha NDiaye, the World Bank delegation was received by the Secretary General (SG) of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Abdelkrim Aouissi, in the presence of several ministerial officials.

During this meeting, the two parties examined “cooperation opportunities between Algeria and the World Bank, particularly the exchange of expertise and technical support for ongoing and future projects, including those related to the development of renewable energy (photovoltaic solar energy and wind energy), the development of green hydrogen, regional electrical interconnection, as well as Algeria's efforts to reduce emissions.”

In this meeting, the ministry’s Secretary General presented an overview of the main lines of Algeria's energy policy and the sector’s various development programs, particularly in hydrocarbons and related infrastructure, electricity, renewable energy, hydrogen development, as well as the national seawater desalination program and Algeria's expertise in public-private partnerships.

While discussing the projects aimed at strengthening and diversifying economic growth, the Secretary General highlighted the role played by the sector in meeting national energy needs (electricity, gas and petroleum products) and ensuring long-term energy coverage through projects aimed to increase production capacities and develop hydrocarbon processing industries, such as the development of petrochemicals, increasing recovery rates, reducing emissions, and capturing carbon as part of reducing the carbon footprint in the oil and gas industry.[/ecr]
