Present in Tizi-Ouzou, as part of the national seminar on “the promotion of renewable energy as a strategy to ensure energy security, under the Algerian law,” organized by Mouloud Mammeri University and wrapped up on Thursday evening, the Director of Energy Efficiency at CEREFE, Mourad Issiakhem, told APS that the goal of achieving a 4-gigawatt production will be reached by the end of 2024 or early 2025.
He recalled that Algeria has implemented a strategy for the energy transition from fossil energy to new and renewable energy, aiming to achieve a production of 15 Gigawatts by 2035, thanks to renewable energy facilities.
The various renewable energy facilities already in place currently generate more than 600 Megawatts (MW). Furthermore, and as part of this strategy, two projects, “2,000 MW” and “Solar 1,000 MW,” were launched at the end of 2023, he said.
“CEREFE took stock of the year 2024 and we found that the renewable energy production capacity in Algeria is over 600 Megawatts. With the projects being launched (totalling 3 Gigawatts) by the end of 2024 and early 2025, we will have an installation capacity of approximately 4 Gigawatts,” said Issiakhem.[/ecr]
