Algeria-Tunisia: Strengthening stock exchange cooperation

ALGIERS- Algiers Stock Exchange received, on Sunday, a delegation from the Tunis Stock Exchange, to examine avenues to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions, particularly in terms of activating stockbrokers’ role.

In a statement to the press at the end of the visit, the Director General of the Algiers Stock Exchange, Yazid Benmouhoub, said that holding discussions with the Tunisian side aimed to bring the two parties closer and benefit from Tunisian expertise in stock exchange field, in order to develop solutions to breathe new life into the stock exchange, particularly by activating the stockbrokers’ role.

In this regard, they also examined ways to benefit from a modern digital system launched in Tunisia, which allows more effective communication with stockbrokers, according to the source.

Benmouhoub emphasized the importance of stockbrokers’ role in supporting the dynamics of the stock exchange, by offering more opportunities to investors to trade shares.

For his part, the Director General of Tunis Stock Exchange, Bilel Sahnoun, said that the similarities between the Tunisian and Algerian markets in many aspects, are an opportunity to develop both markets in several areas, including modern technologies, evaluation and quotation mechanisms and the development of methods to attract investors, as well as the possibility of establishing partnerships between brokers of the two countries.[/ecr]
