"Between 2020 and 2024, Algeria has achieved a major feat with the distribution of 1.7 million housing units, under various programmes," Belaribi said in an address at the 8th Housing Arab Conference, held under the high patronage of the president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in the presence of the representative of the Arab League, Arab Housing ministers and the Chinese Housing minister.

"With a budget of 35 billion dollars, the housing units were built with one hundred percent Algerian building materials, connected to different networks and equipped with the required public facilities," the minister said.

Belaribi said "housing in Algeria is not limited to provide a shelter, but is a national strategic project with social, economic, cultural and human aspects, aimed at improving people's standard of living."

It is also an "absolute priority in the process of achieving social justice," he added.

Housing issue "plays an important part in public development policies and is one of the main pillars of the government's action plan," he said.

" Financial, technical, land and regulatory resources have been made available, to ensure affordable housing for people."

The minister, in this respect, mentioned major infrastructure projects designed to ensure a decent standard of living for citizens, such as seawater desalination plants, university hospital centres and sports stadiums, in addition to the improvement of road networks and railways.

Belaribi said the reforms undertaken by the president of the Republic "have achieved self-sufficiency in building materials" and "created an investment-friendly environment in the sector."
