Bennacer and Khelif will be ambassadors for a period of two years, from 2024 to 2026.

They will be tasked with “defending children’s rights in Algeria, promoting the main points provided for in the expanded agreement between UNICEF and Algeria, particularly in the health field, promoting healthy eating and sports practices, integrating children with disabilities, as well as quality education,” the UNICEF said.

“It is an honor for me to be UNICEF’s ambassador to Algeria. It is an opportunity for me to help the children of my country, something that was among my objectives, since every child has the right to care, education and sports and these are among the principles of the UNICEF organization. I stand ready to serve the children of Algeria and I will do it with pleasure,” Bennacer said on the sidelines of the signing of the agreement.

The boxer Imane Khelif (66kg), qualified for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, said: “it is a great honor for me to be appointed a UNICEF goodwill ambassador to Algeria. There are many children in isolated regions in the South who lack many things, especially since I grew up in this remote environment and I know the suffering of children. I am very excited to support the children of Algeria, in coordination with UNICEF, I will be by their side with pride and I am ready for this mission.”

This global organization currently collaborates with about 400 ambassadors in 103 countries and regions worldwide. They are all famous personalities, such as athletes, artists and celebrities on social media, who can mobilize more people to defend children’s rights.[/ecr]
