In the first final of the Arab athletics event in Egypt, Chaouati ranked second as he clocked 43:30.50, behind Tunisian Ryan Al Sharni (43:16.74), the gold medallist, and ahead of Moroccan Ayoub Al Ghazrani (43:35.97), the bronze medallist.
The performance of the Algerian has allowed him to book a berth in the World Athletics U20 Championships to take place next August 26-31 in Lima, Peru.
The Algerian athletes are competing in the Arab U20 championships with a delegation made up of 29 athletes (21 boys and eight girls).
