African table tennis championships: Algerian team wins silver

ADDIS ABABA- Algerian men's national table tennis team has won a silver medal (team events) at the African championships, being held in Addis Ababa, after losing to Nigeria's (3-1) Monday in the final.

The Algerian team though made a good start, winning the first set through Sami Kherouf, who beat Nigerian Omotayo Olajide 3-2 (11-8, 13-15, 8-11, 11-8 and 11-9).

Kherouf's teammates however lost their sets: Milhane Jellouli lost to one of the best table tennis players in the world, Aruna Quadri, 1-3 (5-11, 11-5, 6-11 and 8-11) and Bella Maheidine lost to Kuti Matthew 0-3 (4-11, 8-11 and 8-11).

In the fourth set, Kherouf failed to win against Aruna, losing 0-3 (5-11, 8-11 and 7-11).

The Algerian trio had qualified for the final by beating their Tunisian counterparts 3-2.
