Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Attaf said the discussions were "an opportunity to enquire about the efforts and steps taken by the United Nations to move forward the political process to resolve the crisis in Libya."
"Those efforts and steps are fully and unconditionally supported by Algeria, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, "he said.
Algeria, according to him, is also backing the relevant UN efforts "through its many positions within the different regional organizations and groups, especially the African Union (AU)."
After reiterating Algeria's support to the UN and its belief in the United Nations' ability and capacity to achieve the expected objective, the minister expressed his regret to see "Libya crisis complete its 13th year (a few months ago)."
"With its persistence, the crisis becomes more and more complex, while the prospects for the political settlement, for the achievement of which Algeria has never ceased to work with sincerity, diminish as time goes by," he deplored.
Attaf said the persistence of the Libya crisis was first caused by the increase and complexity of foreign interference in the affairs of this brotherly country.
"The crisis will mainly be resolved by putting an end to foreign interference whatever its form or purpose, whether political, military or security-related."
