Bendjama chaired the UN’s Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) meeting on regional efforts to combat terrorism in Africa, notably the recent high-level conference held in Abuja from 22-24 April 2024.
“Nigeria's initiative, concretised by the Abuja Declaration, deserves our highest praise,” Bendjama said during his speech.
“It offers a valuable framework that would guide our future actions,” he added.
The ambassador also suggested exploring the development of concrete monitoring mechanisms and robust financing strategies to achieve the goals stated in the Abuja Declaration.
He further expressed his hopes to see the holding of an African Heads of State Summit on this issue soon, stressing that such an event “would reinforce our collective commitment at the highest level and send a strong message of our united determination.”
Recalling Algeria’s efforts in fighting terrorism, which resulted in the elimination of this scourge, the ambassador reaffirmed Algeria’s firm commitment to the regional cooperation against terrorism, emphasizing the importance of an open and constructive dialogue between all partners.[/ecr]
