Algeria calls for urgent Security Council meeting on Palestine

NEW YORK (United Nations) — Algeria on Monday called for an urgent United Nations Security Council meeting to discuss recent developments in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, in light of the Zionist occupation forces’ escalating raids in the West Bank, and the ongoing genocide against Gaza’s populations, and this in coordination with the mission of the State of Palestine to the United Nations (New York).

This meeting, scheduled before the week’s end by the Slovenian presidency of the Security Council, comes amid an ongoing brutal security campaign in the West Bank. Since last October, this campaign has claimed nearly 700 civilian lives, including over 150 children, with infrastructure damage running into millions of USD. Also, the occupation forces continue their crimes against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, bringing the death toll to almost 41,000 martyrs.

This meeting should enable the members of the UN Security Council to reaffirm their support for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and to reiterate their commitment to the two-State solution, as the only option to achieve a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, as well as their rejection of the policy of Zionist occupation authorities aimed at undermining any hope of establishing a Palestinian state and disregard the historical rights of the Palestinian people.
