In a speech he delivered at NAM’s ministerial meeting on the sidelines of the High-level Week under the 79th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, Attaf applauded “NAM’s constant position in favor of the Palestinian cause.”
The FM also commended NAM’s backing for resolutions adopted recently by the UN General Assembly in favor of the Palestinian cause.
He called to pursue this support given the dangerous development in the Palestinian cause, “especially in the face of Zionist escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories and under the current priorities: ceasefire in Gaza, deployment of humanitarian aid and holding the Zionist occupation to account for its crimes.”
In this regard, the FM underlined the need to “back the unprecedented move of international legal bodies against the Israeli occupation because it is the only way to compel the occupier and put an end to its illusions that it is not bound by the strict obligations and constant commitments dictated by international legality.”
Algeria’s top diplomat urged NAM member states to build on the diplomatic gains made by the Palestinian cause to “strengthen the prospects for a just, lasting and definitive solution to the Arab-Zionist conflict by stepping up efforts to hold an international peace conference under the aegis of the UN to take tangible measures guaranteeing the establishment of an irreversibly independent and sovereign Palestinian state.”[/ecr]
