ALGIERS-The Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (Parliament’s Lower House), Brahim Boughali, called on the Participants of the 35th extraordinary session of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), held Wednesday in Cairo, to unify efforts so as to address the complex challenges facing the Arab world.

In a speech he delivered during this session, in his capacity as AIPU’s president, Boughali “condemned the unprecedented barbaric war in the region,” calling them “to show high sense of responsibility and unified willingness to face the challenges of the Arab world,” the Lower House said in a press release.

Recalling the importance of this session, “which coincides with the Zionist escalation notably its expansion in Lebanon, the brotherly country,” Boughali underscored the importance of “examining means of coordination to include an urgent clause to cease the war in Gaza, during the 149th General Assembly (GA) of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), scheduled from 13 to 17 October in Geneva.”

In this respect, Boughali deplored the committee’s inability to adopt the aforementioned clause in the past,” emphasizing the need to think on “the reasons for this inability, and to work towards effective solutions to prevent it from happening again.”

“The close relations linking the Asian, African and Latin American parliaments allow them to form the largest bloc within the IPU,” he emphasized, urging the executive committee’s members to "formulate concrete proposals capable of strengthening the presence in the international fora and mobilizing support from allies and conscious people  around the world in favour of the Palestinian cause.”

In this regard, Boughali expressed his “satisfaction with the growing international awareness on the fairness of the Palestinian cause,” saying he was “optimistic about the UN General Assembly's decision calling for an end to the Zionist existence in Palestinian territories within 12 months,” which is “a big step towards achieving justice and establishing peace and stability in the region.”

At the end of his speech, Boughali highlighted the importance of “making the most of this meeting in strengthening Arab solidarity and ensuring a peaceful and just future for all peoples of the region,” welcoming “the initiatives of the committee members to focus parliamentary efforts on the Palestinian Cause.”[/ecr]
