NEW YORK (United Nations) — Algeria participated on Friday in New York at the invitation of China and Brazil in a ministerial meeting for the launch of the “Friends of Peace” platform, set up by the countries of the South to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.

During this meeting, the permanent representative of Algeria to the United Nations, Ambassador Amar Bendjama, expressed “Algeria's backing for this comprehensive and constructive initiative, aimed at ending this conflict as soon as possible, in line with the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter and taking into account the legitimate security concerns of both parties.”

Co-chairing this meeting with Celso Amorim, the Brazilian President's Special Envoy to New York, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that the “Friends of Peace” platform was not a closed group but an open platform that aims for inclusive dialogue rather than competition or confrontation.

The ministerial meeting culminated with adopting a joint declaration grouping 13 countries, in which it was agreed to continue consultations at different levels with all parties.
