The UNGA took note of the Secretary General's report of 24 July 2024 submitted to the current session of the UNGA, in which he said that the Fourth Committee (a UN General Assembly committee) and the Special Committee on the Situation with regard the implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples for 2024, consider Western Sahara question as a decolonization issue.

It reaffirmed the inalienable right of all peoples to self-determination and independence, in accordance with the principles set forth in the Charter of the United Nations and General Assembly resolution 1514 (XV) of 14 December 1960 containing the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples.

It Requested the Special Committee on the Situation with regard to the Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples to continue to consider the situation in Western Sahara and to report thereon to the General Assembly at its eightieth session.

The UNGA invited the Secretary-General to submit to the General Assembly, at its eightieth session, a report on the implementation of the present resolution.

The Polisario Front's UN representative and coordinator with MINURSO, Sidi Mohammed Ammar, said the resolution adopted by the Fourth Committee "reaffirms, like every year, Western Sahara people's inalienable right to self-determination and independence, in line with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and UN General Assembly Resolution 1514 containing the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples."
