Local by-elections in Bejaia and Tizi Ouzou: Independent lists win more than 82% of seats

ALGIERS-Independent lists won 74 seats, i.e. 82.22% of the seats to be filled in the communal by-elections held on Saturday in the provinces of Bejaia and Tizi Ouzou, announced Sunday the Chairman of the National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE), Mohamed Charfi.

In a press briefing dedicated to the announcement of the provisional results of these by-elections, Charfi said that the 12 lists in the running won 74 of the 90 seats to be filled, i.e. 82.22%.

They are followed by the lists of the party of the National Liberation Front (FLN) which obtained 7 seats, i.e. 7.78%. 

The Front of Socialist Forces (FFS) ranked third with 6 seats, i.e. 6.67% of the total number of seats, followed by the National Democratic Rally (RND) which obtained 3 seats, i.e. 3.33%.

The local by-elections concerned the communes of Feraoun, M'cisna, Akbou, and Toudja in the province of Bejaia, and Ait Mahmoud and Ait Boumahdi in the province of Tizi Ouzou.[/ecr]
