In his speech, during a commemoration ceremony before the memorial stele marking the French nuclear explosions in the Martyrs' Square in Reggane, the minister emphasized that “the commemoration, every year, of this tragic anniversary bolsters the cohesion of the Algerian people who endured, as a single body, the cruelty of colonialism in its most abject forms, and which exceeded all limits due to their cruelty and the devastating means used.”

Rebiga said that the ministry “strives, as part of the implementation of the government’s action plan, to cement the values of the national memory by commemorating such historical events whose effects are ever-present, with a view to reminding new generations of the heinous crimes perpetrated by colonialism.”
