Road accidents: 08 dead, 367 dead in one week

ALGIERS-Eight (8) people were killed and 367 wounded in 329 road accidents that occurred countrywide on 10-16 Jan, the National Police announced Thursday in toll.

The toll shows an increase in the number of accidents (+48), injuries (+29), and deaths (+1) compared to the previous week.

The heaviest toll was reported in the province of Msila with 03 people dead and 37 injured in 26 road accidents, said the source. 

The human factor remains the main cause of these accidents (+96%), especially non-compliance with the highway code and the safety distance, speeding, and lack of concentration, in addition to the condition of the vehicle, according to the same source.

In this context, the Directorate General of National Security calls on road users to be cautious and respect the highway code.[/ecr]
