Road accidents: 29 dead, 1478 injured since beginning of Ramadan

ALGIERS- Twenty-nine (29) people died and 1,478 others were injured in road accidents that occurred across several regions of the country during the first nine days of Ramadan, according to a report published Saturday by the Civil Protection.

The report said that eleven (11) people died and 382 others were injured during the last 48 hours.

The heaviest toll was recorded in the province of Batna with 02 people dead and 02 others injured following a collision between two trucks and a car, which occurred on the national road 87, in the town of Chemora.

In Skikda, the rescue services of the Civil Protection provided first aid to 4 people affected by carbon monoxide from domestic appliances.

In addition, the units of Civil Protection extinguished 04 urban and other fires in the provinces of Algiers, Khenchela, and Ain Temouchent.

These fires ravaged 375 fruit trees but did not cause causalities.[/ecr]
