Traffic accidents: 39 dead, 1869 injured in one week  

ALGIERS- Thirty-nine (39) people died and 1,869 were injured in traffic accidents that occurred across the country between August 27 and September 2, according to a Civil Protection report.

In addition, Civil Protection units carried out 2,445 interventions to extinguish 1,693 fires, notably urban and industrial, the largest of which were recorded in the provinces of Algiers (172 fires), Annaba (109) and Skikda (98), said the source.

According to the same report, 5014 interventions were carried out by Civil Protection personnel during the same period to rescue 474 people in danger, as well as 4299 other assistance operations.[/ecr]
