Road accidents: 40 dead, 1666 injured in week

ALGIERS- Forty (40) people died and 1666 others were injured in 1280 traffic accidents recorded, from 29 October to 4 November, throughout the country, according to a Civil Protection weekly report.

The province of Oran recorded the heaviest toll with 6 dead and 52 injured in 45 accidents, the same source said.

During the same period, Civil Protection rescue teams carried out 2039 interventions to put out 1424 fires, including urban, industrial and others. The most significant incidents were reported in the provinces of Algiers (198 fires), Tizi Ouzou (94), and Blida (87).[/ecr]
