Krikou takes part in meeting of AU Member States' Ministers for Women's Status

ALGIERS- Minister for National Solidarity, the Family and the Status of Women, Kaouter Krikou is taking part, by videoconference, in the meeting of African Union (AU) Member States' ministers for Woman's Status, who are taking part in the the work of the 8th Specialized Technical Committee on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, said the ministry on Monday in a statement.

[ecr]  During this two-day meeting (13 and 14 November), "regional reports on Member States' efforts to protect and empower women, as well as the various activities of the AU, represented by the Women's Directorate, will be discussed," said the source.

The meeting constitues an opportunity to " develop a unified position among African states and to publish an African declaration to be presented to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women at its 68th session, to be held in March 2024 at the United Nations headquarters in New York," according to the same source.

The first day of the meeting was marked by "a debate on the final version of thethe 17th report by AU Member States on the implementation of the Official Declaration on Gender Equality, in which Algeria had a key role in drafting the report regarding its efforts to protect and empower women, including legislative texts, in particular the Constitution of November 2020," added the ministry.

This ministerial meeting was preceded by a meeting of experts from 8 to 11 November 2023, devoted to debating and enriching the reports to be submitted to the Ministers for approval at the
