Road accidents: 40 dead, 1513 injured in one week

ALGIERS – Forty (40) people died and 1513 others were injured in 1175 road accidents between the period of 31 December 2023 and 6 January 2024 across several provinces of the country, a Civil Protection report said on Tuesday.

The heaviest toll was recorded in the province of Tamanrasset, with four people dead and nine injured in six road accidents, the same source said.

The Civil Protection units carried out 1003 interventions to put out 636 fires, particularly urban and industrial fires. The most significant incidents were reported in the provinces of Algiers (72 fires), Tlemcen (37) and Oran (28).[/ecr]
