Road accidents: 35 dead, 1,392 injured in one week  

 

ALGIERS-Thirty-five (35) people were killed and 1,392 injured in 1,119 road accidents across the country on 21-27 January, according to a weekly Civil Protection report.

The heaviest toll was recorded in the province of Tebessa, where 5 people were killed and 16 injured in 16 road accidents, the report said.

In addition, Civil Protection units extinguished 640 urban, industrial and other fires, the largest of which were recorded in the provinces of Algiers (82 fires), Oran (50) and Tlemcen (40).

During the same period, 5562 interventions were carried out by Civil Protection personnel to rescue 369 people in danger, as well as 4940 other assistance operations.[/ecr]
