Algerian Muslim Scouts sign partnership agreements with Ministry of Youth and Sports, UNICEF

ALGIERS-The National Council of the Algerian Muslim Scouts (SMA) held its 37th session on Friday, in Algiers, and signed a partnership agreement with the Ministry of Youth and Sports on raising awareness about the scourge of drugs, in addition to another agreement with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for training in disaster first aid.

In a speech on this occasion, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Abderrahmane Hammad, applauded SMA’s efforts to promote citizenship and accompany the State’s policy related to assisting and protecting the youth, underscoring the commitment of his sector to carry on coordinating with SAM to achieve set objectives.

Under this agreement, the minister said that  spaces and structures under the authority of the sector will be at the disposal of SMA for organizing awareness activities and campaigns for the youth and children.

The kick-off for this campaign will be on 22 February in the province of El Oued under the slogan “Protect your country from drugs.”

For his part, SMA’s general commander, Abderrahmane Hamzaoui, urged everyone to “protect young people from threats,” noting that “this what SMA aims to achieve through raising awareness about the dangers of these poisons on society.”

Hamzaoui said that the agreement signed with UNICEF focuses on training scout leaders in disaster first aid, intervention, development of first aid skills, and psychological support for children.

For her part, UNICEF representative to Algeria, Katarina Johansson, stressed SMA’s work for children and youth, pointing out that aid and support for victims of natural disasters were one of the main missions of scouts.
