ALGIERS – Several people lost their lives and 406 others were injured in 308 road accidents that occurred from 13 to 19 February in urban areas, according to a report of the National Security services.

The toll recorded an increase in the number of deaths with (+2) and injured (+31) and a decrease in the number of accidents (-16) compared to the previous week. 

The human factor still remains the main cause of these accidents (97 percent) because of non-compliance with the Highway Traffic Act and safety distance, speeding and lack of concentration when driving, in addition to state of the vehicles, according to the source. 

The General Directorate of National Police (DGSN) reiterates its call to road users to caution and compliance with the highway code, recalling the green numbers 1548 and emergency 17 put to the provision of citizens 24 24.
