Road accidents: 36 deaths, 1453 injured in one week  

ALGIERS-Thirty-six (36) people were killed and 1,453 injured in 1,150 road accidents across the country on 17-23 March, according to a report published on Tuesday by the Civil Protection.

The heaviest toll was recorded in the province of Bejaia, with 8 deaths and 36 injuries, following 21 traffic accidents, said the same source.

During the same period, Civil Protection personnel carried out 839 interventions to extinguish 557 fires, particularly urban and industrial fires, the largest of which were recorded in Algiers (59 fires), Oran (31) and Mostaganem (23).

The same rescue services also carried out 5109 interventions to save 284 people in danger and performed 4605 various assistance operations.[/ecr]
