ALGIERS-Forty-six (46) people were killed and 1,461 injured in 1,246 road accidents across the country on 31 March-46 April, according to a report published on Monday by the Civil Protection.

The heaviest toll was recorded in the province of Ain Defla, with 8 deaths and 36 injuries, following 29 traffic accidents, according to the same source.

During the same period, Civil Protection personnel carried out 969 interventions to extinguish 647 fires, particularly urban and industrial fires, the largest of which were recorded in Algiers (82 fires), Oran (43) and Blida (32).

The same rescue services also carried out 4868 interventions to save 274 people in danger and performed 4299 various assistance operations.[/ecr]
