Minister Bentaleb, DG of International Labour Organization hold talks

ALGIERS - The Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Faycal Bentaleb, met on Sunday in Algiers with the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Gilbert Houngbo, to examine ways and means to boost cooperation with this United Nations (UN) agency.

Held on the sidelines of the visit of the ILO Director-General to Algeria (from 20-23 April), at the head of a large delegation, the meeting provided an opportunity for the two parties “to exchange views on ways to boost cooperation with this UN agency and to highlight Algeria’s major efforts in promoting decent work, dialogue and social protection.”

After lauding “Algeria’s pioneering experience in social security and social dialogue,” Houngbo welcomed the “positive” relations linking the ILO and Algeria in labour, employment and social security.

He further expressed “the organization’s complete willingness to bolster and deepen this cooperation.”

Minister Bentaleb highlighted “Algeria’s experience in promoting social dialogue, stressing the achievements made for the benefit of workers in social security and decent work, as well as the progress witnessed in the employment mechanisms and the social security system in Algeria.”

The meeting took place in the presence of the Secretary-General and the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, officials from the Ministry as well as representatives of the ILO Office in Algeria.
